The snow tires come off my car. I see daffodils poking up in the garden. Heavy winter coats get moved from the mudroom. I sweep debris littering the paths around my house. Tarps covering the outdoor furniture are folded and put away. Sticks raked from the grass. I smile as I hang a floral wreath on my door. A vase of tulips brighten my table.
Spring brings a fresh energy as the days stretch ever longer. We emerge from our winter hibernation. There’s an urge to clear out the cobwebs, dust the surfaces and lighten the heavy. We shed our layers.
We hunger for change, want to move our bodies, plan adventures. There's a feeling of momentum.
Or, maybe, just maybe, the shifting season feels overwhelming. We hesitate to step out of our winter slumber. There’s a reluctance to leave the familiarity and safety of our cocoon. We wonder how we are going to manage the 'busy' of spring and feel like we 'should' be enjoying the best days of the year. It all feels overwhelming and exhausting.
Spring isn't always fresh spaces and blooming flowers, is it?
How do we move through the changing season in a way that feels good to us? What needs to shift? What changed over the winter so quietly that maybe we didn't notice in the moment?
What do we want to let go of as we move into spring? Is it scrolling Instagram in bed? Is it skipping a daily walk? Is it feeling guilty about something?
What "seeds" can we plant this spring? A new activity? A shift in schedule? A conversation?
Just as we clean and freshen the spaces around us, the transition from winter to spring is as good a time as any to reflect on what’s changing in our lives.
So tell me ... How are you honouring the changing season? What seeds are you planting this spring?
Walking forward with gratitude,
Sarah

Walking Forward: Turns 1!
It’s been a whole year since Walking Forward: Using the Power of Habit to Navigate the Chaos of Life launched. Crazy! I was lucky enough to have all my boys home to celebrate. My heart is full.
