Wow. Good for you! This is something I have been contemplating recently with my mum but youβve also got me thinking about a solo journey. What prompted you to do it? And alone? Just curious.
Thanks Leith! The Camino is something I've been thinking about for a long time inspired by my Mum who did a longer walk. The timing came together for me to do it this month and I am so glad I did it on my own. At times it would have been nice to be with someone but it was quite liberating doing it by myself. It's given me the confidence to think differently about travel and exploring new places! Will be sure to share more in future newsletters.
I was thinking about you this week and I'm happy to hear it went well.
I suppose there are as many reasons for people to walk the Camino as people that have walked it, but I'm curious to hear more about what drew you to do it?
-Besides the talkative barnyard animals, did anything else surprise you?
-Where did you stay and were you offline the whole time or did you have contact with home?
-Your advice has me thinking about planning my own solo hike...I'll be sure not to wait and do it scared:)
Thanks Nona! I am so glad I walked on my own. And travelled on my own. It was a beautiful experience not to be accountable to anyone but myself. I stayed in a mix of hostels and guest houses. I was mostly offline but checked in with my husband each day when I reached my destination. The time difference from home helped to disconnect as well. Go for the walk on your own! I am not saying it was easy but it was so worth it. And now I am figuring out what I can do next! xo
Just came across your substack! βDo it scaredβ is so spot on! A good lesson in life. And bravo for going on your own!
Thank you! It's a lesson I keep coming back to. So grateful for my Camino experience.
